The LA County Fair is going on right now until September 23rd and you won’t want to miss it. The theme this year is “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” and it’s being celebrated with a stroll down Route 66,  specially priced food at $6.60 and an “Alt 66” art exhibit.

LA County Fair Food

If you see a vendor with a California License Plate that means that they are offering a menu item that’s $6.60 to celebrate Route 66. These affordable items come with a drink and include burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, chips, sweets and much more!

That’s just some of the great food at the fair. Other fun items at the fair include this Nitro Candy Pop, which is cotton candy flavored kettle corn and caramel apple kettle corn that’s frozen by dipping it into liquid nitrogen.

Other delicious items to try include Chicken Charlie’s Buffalo Mac ‘n Cheese in a waffle cone, and Pastrami Fries from Frontier BBQ.

LA County Fair Attractions

If you need to walk off your food,  you can take a stroll down “The Mother Road” and explore all 8 states along Route 66.

The route goes from Chicago to Santa Monica recreating many of the iconic stops through Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arizona including the Wigwam Motel and the Mt. Baldy Drive-in. I especially enjoyed the camping.

If you want to get out of heat and still enjoy what Route 66 has to offer, head over to the Alt 66 exhibit at the Millard Sheets Art Center.

Eighteen Los Angeles artists created immersive environments inspired by Route 66. The exhibit below had succulents to take home along with a pack of seeds.

Another had a drive-in seat with a movie screen that played clips of scenes from California’s past.

Of course in addition to local history, art and great food, there are plenty of other fun things to do with kids at the fair. Families can visit The Farm, Brick City, which is an interactive Lego exhibit, The Rock Candy Factory and a DIY Design Studio.
