World Elephant Day Celebration

Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens

Celebrate World Elephant Day at the L.A. Zoo this weekend on Saturday, August 11th and Sunday, August 12th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day. This special celebration includes many different activities such as barn tours, conservation crafts, education stations, and more. Additionally, children are invited to participate in the Zoo’s “Check-Up Station,” where Zoo volunteers will “examine” stuffed animals and issue certificates of health. All activities are included with general Zoo admission ($21 for ages 13-61; $18 for those 62+; $16 for children 2-12; and free for children under 2).

Family Flicks Film Series: Old Yeller

Families are invited to the Hammer Museum for a screening of the classic film Old Yeller on Sunday, August 12th at 11:00 am. The 1957 Disney classic is recommended for children eight and older. (Admission is always free at the Hammer; parking under the museum is a flat rate of $6 on weekends).

Arboretum Summer Nights

The L.A. Arboretum hosts a live, family-friendly musical performance on Friday, August 10th. Gates open at 5:00 pm, and the concert, featuring local bands, begins at 6:00 pm. Before the concert, children will enjoy story telling, crafts, and lawn games. Pack a picnic or purchase food from the food trucks which will be on site. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and younger are free.

SEA Lab’s Summer Carnival: Celebrating 20 Years!

The SEA Lab in Redondo Beach is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a very special celebration on Sunday, August 12th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Families will have the chance to visit the touch tanks, play games, go on a kayaking adventure, and more. Tickets are available online and range in price from $5 to $30.

Movies on the Green: Coco

Enjoy the 2017-film Coco on Saturday, August 11th as part of the Movies on the Green Series. The movie begins at dusk (about 8:00 pm) and ends at about 10:00 pm. Movies are free, though there is a full concession stand on-site. Don’t forget to bring blankets, low chairs, and pillows. (The film is rated PG).

Free Art Experience

Westfield Fashion Square

Children are invited to make some art at the Free Art Experience happening at the Westfield Fashion Square on Saturday, August 11th. From 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, children can work with Art Rebel, a local art studio, to make their own art. Saturday’s theme is “Create Succulents.” You can RSVP online.

Summer Block Party

The Malibu Country Mart is hosting a Summer Block Party on Saturday, August 11th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This free event offers fun for the whole family including live entertainment, carnival treats, a petting zoo, face painting, in-store activities, and much more.

Angel City Derby Double Header

Families are invited to attend an Angel City Derby Double Header on Saturday, August 11th. This family-friendly event also serves as a great introduction to Roller Derby  for kids who may be interested and curious in the sport. Watch and cheer on our Angel City Derby as they take on the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The first game begins at 6:30 pm, and the second game starts at 8:30 pm. Advance tickets are available online. (General admission is $16, kids 10 and under are $10. Parking is free).
