Voting Begins for Scholar Dollars Grant Money

We recently told you how easy it was to apply for a Scholar Dollar grant for California k-8 pubic schools. Now it’s time to start voting! ScholarShare 529 College Savings Plan is awarding $300,000 in Scholar Dollars grant money to schools that applied for 2018 grants.

It's time to vote for Scholar Dollar school grants!

Grant winners will receive awards based on school size. It’s broken down like this:

  • Four winners, at schools with 350 students are less will win $5,000 each
  • Four winners, at schools with 351 to 500 students will win $10,000 each
  • Four winners, at schools with 501 to 650 students will win $15,000 each
  • Four winners, at schools with 651 to 900 students will win $20,000 each
  • Three winners, at schools with 901 1,500 students will win $25,000 each
  • One school with more than 1,501 students will win $30,000

It’s a lot of money – even for small schools – so get your community voting. Voting begins March 12, 2018, and closes on March 23, 2018. Members of each registered school’s community who are over the age of 18, including parents, relatives, friends, faculty, and school officials, can vote for their school once per day. Students under the age of 18 are NOT allowed to vote.

In 2017, 390 schools across the state registered and more than 411,000 votes were cast. The grant awards funded 80 new Chromebooks for Alfred B. Nobel Charter Middle School in Northridge and sent a classroom of 5th graders at Village School in Campbell to science camp. Shannon Ranch Elementary School in Visalia built a much-needed running track.

Scholar Dollars is administered by ScholarShare 529, California’s college savings plan. The program recognizes the critical role that California schools play in preparing students for college success by providing essential extracurricular programs that foster college-going cultures on their campuses.
