Olvera Street Posada

The Olvera Street merchant families beginning every December 16 play out the journey of Las Posadas throughout the nine nights of Advent. The Posada is a short pilgrimage that reenacts the Christmas Eve journey of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem searching for shelter. The small business owners of Olvera Street share their beloved holiday tradition annually with all on Olvera Street, preserving the best of both cultures with their children and grandchildren, as well as the public. Las Posadas runs on Olvera Street from December 16 to 24 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Every year Santa Monica hosts a series of holiday events and activities that turn a busy urban corner into a magical winter wonderland with the annual ICE at Santa Monica skating rink, open November 1, 2014 through January 19, 2015.This year, Winterlit takes over the corner of Wilshire Boulevard at Third Street Promenade. Every Thursday evening, beginning at 6 p.m. November 20th, Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is going to make it snow! There will be free activities as well, including karaoke, kids’ crafts, a holiday movie screening and more.

This popular family holiday event packs the house every year. For one day only and offering only 2 performances, families are invited to sing along with the Hall’s huge organ to some of your favorite holiday tunes such as “The 12 Days of Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and many others.
The Hollywood Christmas Parade
Starting on Hollywood Blvd at Orange, the U-shaped parade route will travel east to Vine, south on Vine to Sunset Boulevard and west on Sunset, back to Orange

The 82nd annual Hollywood Christmas Parade takes place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in the Hollywood community in Los Angeles (Sunday, November 30th, at 5:00pm). This year’s parade is benefitting Toys For Tots and the Grand Marshall is musician Stevie Wonder. Free curbside viewing is available along the majority of the parade route.

The Naples Island 68th Annual Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, December 13th, 2014 at 6:00pm. This year’s boat parade theme is “light up the night”, which they festively decorated boats will be sure to do. There will be also be groups of carolers walking around the Island and singing holiday songs by the bridges. Arrive early to catch a good viewing spot, or make dinner reservations at a restaurant for indoor viewing.

The Christmas season could not be the same without the classic holiday tradition of the Nutcracker Ballet. Audiences will join Clara and her beloved Nutcracker as she travels to the Land of Snow, and to the Palace of the Dolls where all of her favorite doll companions come to life. The Nutcracker will be offered at the Alex Theatre, Dolby Theatre, Royce Hall and the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.

The iconic Los Angeles Zoo is celebrating the inaugural LA Zoo Lights this year with a holiday light experience that combines spectacular sets and lighting design with the greatness that is the L.A. Zoo. Zoo animal lovers will be able to stroll through areas of the Zoo that are transformed into a fantastical wonderland populated by glowing light animals. Visitors will be able to also view real reindeer, visit with Santa and enjoy holiday treats and goodies too.

Back for the 31st year, the Christmas caroling truck Christmas Eve on Wednesday, December 24TH, 2014 from 4:30pm to 11:00pm. They will also be hosting a special appearance at Toluca Lake Open House on Friday, December 5th from 6:30-8:30pm on Riverside Drive. Since 1984, the sixty-two foot tractor-trailer, adorned with magnificent Christmas scenes and thousands of sparkling lights, has been spreading Yuletide cheer in the neighboring communities.
