Biocitizen LA will get your child “off the screen and into the green”!
Biocitizen LA – School of Field Environmental Philosophy – Our Place Summer School 2017 June-August
Our Place Summer School is designed to “unplug” your child by bringing them into direct contact with “Our Place” , the natural and urban environment of the Los Angeles River Basin Biome. We provide experiential learning for ages 6-14, via Field Environmental Philosophy (FEP). FEP is simply the practice of inquiry based learning while we explore the world around us, while we walk!
Our weekly sessions consist of five, six-hour days in which we roam multiple outdoor classrooms all over LA, on a treasure hunt in pursuit of natural and cultural signs and stories. These activities are fun, and they’re designed to increase student’s perceptual abilities, stimulate their critical thinking skills, inspire their creative imaginations, and counteract “nature deficit disorder.” Through active physical and mental engagement with “our place,” they gain a deep & lasting appreciation of LA—and of themselves.
**This summer we are happy to announce that will be learning about tree care with TreePeople and hope to be kayaking on the LA River!
