Achieve Academy by Junior Achievement of SoCal

Type: Academic, Investment

Description:

Achieve Academy by JASOCAL is a 3-day, interactive learning experience for 9th & 10th graders designed by Junior Achievement of SoCal, a leader in Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Work Readiness Education.

Students will become pros in the explosive and exciting world of investment by learning: the basics of the stock market, how to buy and sell stocks, the risk and return of trading stocks, what initial public offering (IPO) and dividends are, and how to read stock tables and graphs. Students will also take field trips to local financial corporate offices and have a chance to learn from industry leaders.

Achieve Academy by JASOCAL culminates in a Stock Market Challenge, where students will put everything they have learned into a fast-paced and real-time stock market simulation.

The fact is, most of us never learned about money or investing when we were younger and we wished we had. Achieve Academy by JASOCAL will give your child a financial foundation that will help them meet their financial goals when they grow up!

Description:

Why Camp Kids Klub?

Have you ever thought, “Why Camp Kids Klub?” From our favorite songs, to hilarious games, special surprises and yummy treats, our camp has tons of unique traditions that campers look forward to each summer. We guarantee that we’ll keep the energy high and the fun flowing throughout the camp day!

We believe that camp is an essential experience in a child’s life. Camp is about the feeling that anything is possible. Children should spend their time at camp on adventures and having dynamic experiences- learning, playing, making lifelong friends, and being surrounded by people that inspire them.

As our camp song says, “In 1995, Kids Klub arrived!”, and we have been perfecting summer camp ever since! Here are some of our favorite things!

Above all, Camp Kids Klub is all about friendships, new and old! Whether you have been coming to camp for five years or it is your first day, you can count on making friends right away. To that end, we do team building first thing every Monday morning so that campers get to know one another and their counselors. Moreover, throughout the week we continue to play wacky games during group time to solidify these bonds. We believe that camp friendships are some of the strongest friendships you can have. We love seeing those friendships grow year after year!

Each week at Camp Kids Klub is organized around an exciting Theme. Hence, during “International Week” we learn about different countries and cultures through cooking, dance, art, and sports, and every child gets their very own passport! For “Island Adventure Week” we’ll act like pirates and have a Luau party! Another favorite at Camp Kids Klub is “Olympic Week”, our annual all-camp competition between the Yellow, Blue, and Green Team, who will win this year!? No matter the theme, we plan events that everyone will enjoy!

Finally, this is your opportunity to be a cowboy, alien, wizard, or superhero! We will have a costume contest with prizes for everyone who dresses up. Staff look forward to dress-up days as much as the campers! Don’t be surprised if your counselor suddenly turns into a purple-haired Rock Star!

Project Scientist Academy

Type: Academic, Day Camp, STEM

Description:

Project Scientist has a fun-filled program for your daughter this summer. Over the course of six weeks, girls ages 4 to 12 will participate in fun-filled experiments, exciting field trips to top science and technology companies, and interactive sessions with women thriving in the STEM field. They will learn about biomedical engineering, environmental science, robotics, entrepreneurship, and more!

Environmental Health, Climate Change and Renewable Energy
Resources are slim, and it’s up to us to evaluate how we source energy in efficient ways that are kind to our planet! We’ll spend the week GOING GREEN, diving into resources and how we transform them into energy that impacts our daily lives. We’ll investigate different forms of energy and the importance of conservation, design, and innovation to turn our world on and color it GREEN!

What our girls say: “I think it’s very important that we take care of our Earth. It’s so cool to see kids my age in the news fighting to make a difference. I want to learn how we can stop climate change and save our planet.”

Aerospace, AI and Automation
Explore Earth’s systems (sun, moon and solar system) and several means of technology that allow us to learn more about our universe. Everything from space suits and communications to spacecraft and rockets will surely propel your girl’s knowledge to infinity and beyond to expand her universe of possibilities!

What our girls say: “I watched the movie “Hidden Figures” and was shocked that so much goes into exploring outer space. Astronauts learn SO many new things living on a space station. Seeing what they discover makes me want to be an explorer too!”

Science of Play and Entertainment
From toys to amusement parks, we’ll use our imagination to uncover how art design plays a part in creating experiences that entertain us. From story development to design, we’ll learn how prototypes are brought to life. Exploring art, theatre design, animatronics, stop-motion, augmented and mixed realities we’ll delve into our creative side for sensory-loaded experiences.

What our girls say: “My dream job is to be an Imagineer or an animator. I’m more into the creative side of engineering and was inspired when we went to Santa Monica Studios and met people who use their imagination at work every day!”

Technology, Robotics and Code Design
We will explore how technology automation is used to solve common problems and how computer and software programming, encryption and big data play a role in the products we love. Girls will dig deep into the relationship between tech and data, robotics and automation, and the latest innovations in augmented reality. Girls will work in groups to come up with innovations of their own. This week is all about uncovering the data behind the products and mobile apps we love!

What our girls say: “I’m obsessed with watching videos on my phone and tablet, but I want to know how I can make them myself and maybe design an app one day.”

Invention and Tech: Entrepreneurship for Good
Invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship! We will explore challenges the world is facing and come up with creative solutions using technology and other creative resources. Girls will learn the skills to find problems that impact their world and come up with inventions that make it better, and then jump into the process of turning her ideas into real products and services that people can use! We’ll dive into the invention process of brainstorming, engineering design models, and pitching a solution to a problem…learning what it takes to bring an invention to market. Girls will become “Founders” of their own companies and end the week presenting their pitch to our Project Scientist community!

What our girls say: “I’m always making things to help my mom around the house. I made a picker-upper for trash at the beach, and I have a TON of other ideas for inventions that I haven’t even started on yet.”

Biomedical Engineering and Dissection
Learn how engineering delivers patient care through the many technological advances of medical devices. We’ll close the gap between engineering and life sciences to marvel at how we use their principles to replace anatomical structures and functions. Explore how these machines, devices and other technologies are used, and make creations to solve health problems. Girls will dive headfirst into dissecting organs to explore how these innovations improve their functions.

What our girls say: “Dissection week is my most FAVORITE part of camp EVER. I don’t get to use my own hands and do this stuff in school. Everyone is shocked when I tell them I dissected a REAL sheep heart over the summer!”
